Hello. My name is Munchkin. I am a Double Yellow Headed Amazon, hatched in 1985. Our species typically lives 40 to 70 years, and I now find myself standing right at the front edge of that range. Not old in spirit, but undeniably entering the years that require gentler handling and a steadier pace.

Despite the nickname, I was never small in spirit. I simply preferred to let the louder personalities take the spotlight while I kept the rhythm of the household steady.

For many years, I lived with Dave and Naomi. And with Nicky, of course. Two birds, two very different approaches to life. If Nicky was the fireworks, I was the candlelight. He announced himself to the world; I watched it carefully, choosing my moments, offering calm where he offered energy. Dave and Naomi understood us both.

When Dave died during COVID, the house grew quieter, but not in a comforting way. Naomi and I managed together. She talked to me softly, and I answered in my own way. We carried each other through the heaviness of those years.

As Naomi’s health declined, she made decisions with clarity and love. She planned. She researched sanctuaries. She found PPC. She made sure that when she left the world, Nicky and I would not fall into uncertainty or be passed from home to home. I am a permanent resident now. A soft-voiced Amazon in a busy aviary. I don’t compete with the louder birds. I don’t need to. There is strength in stillness. I enjoy routine, familiar faces, warm perches, and the steady flow of life around me. I don’t demand much, but I appreciate the care that makes this chapter of my life peaceful.
